Which person do you remember when thinking about boxing in the 90’s?

Who is the first person that comes trough your mind?

For our site, it is without a doubt, Mike Tyson.

Despite the fact that Iron Mike achieved most of his success during the late 80’s and had just a few shining moments during the early 90’s, without a doubt he was one of the most iconic persons in that period.

Always in the middle of attention, and whatever he would do or wherever he would appear, the media and the public monitored everything closely monitored.

During the 90’s, Tyson experienced some bitter situations, and he remembers that period with bad feelings in his gut.

He was sentenced to six years in prison, back in 1992, because of raping, Miss Black Rhode Island. Desiree Washington,

Eventually, he was released from jail just after he spent three years. The scene of his releasing was one of the most popular moments of the 90’s.

The fights with Evander Holyfield are the classic events in the sporting history.
These fights are something that everybody of you saw at least once in their lives, and they are one of the most memorable events in the history of the sport.

Probably the most known moment in boxing history is the one when he bites off the piece of Holyfield’s ear.

This was something that stands even today, many years after, as one of the most disturbing scenes on television.

Tyson is the youngest person who became the champion, in the whole history of boxing. He became that when he demolished Trevor Berbick, reigning champion at that time.
He had just 20 years. A kid.

“I was throwing hydrogen bombs in there,” Tyson was describing his performance in that fight.

He was undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.
But this story wouldn’t be so interesting without his constant shockings.

He was a part of one of the biggest upsets in the history of boxing.
That happened in the year 1990 when he lost the fight against Buster Douglas.

That fight was also, something that marked the 90’s. Douglas, he was a complete underdog, and no one gave him one percent of chances to beat Tyson.

Everything fell apart for Mike after his lost against Holyfield, and he quickly became just a famous name, on which some average boxers built their name after defeating him.
Despite the fact that he earned 300 million dollars throughout his career, Tyson was forced to declare bankruptcy. He had more than 23 million dollars debt.

All of his 62 vehicles were sold because he had to pay debts.

Today, he lives with his third wife and two children.

From previous marriages, Tyson has five more children, and three of them graduated.
All three at respective universities such as New York, America, and Drexler. And that is what makes Iron Mike especially proud.

He didn’t have that kind of opportunity in his life. He had to fight his way.
At some points, that fight forced him to be cruel.

But that fact doesn’t diminish his success. It proves that he is probably bigger than we think.
